A Zero Value Entry refers to any transaction in TallyPrime where the monetary value of the item or transaction is zero, i.e., no amount is paid or received, but the movement of stock, asset, or document is recorded.
Zero value transaction is used when you want to pass the entry without any amount, for example free samples Distributed or Received, there is no value of goods to be received or paid. You Have To Make Some Changes in Payment Voucher For Pass Zero value transaction.
When & Why to Use Zero Value Entry?
- When stock is sent or received as a sample (no payment involved).
- When goods are placed in a store for display or consignment, but ownership isn’t transferred.
- When blank cheques are issued or received without specifying amount.
- For internal transfers without any value exchange.
Examples include:
- Free Samples: Giving samples to customers for marketing purposes.
- Promotional Offers: Recording free products in “Buy One Get One Free” deals.
- Replacements: Issuing replacements for defective goods at no charge.
- Internal Transfers: Moving stock between departments without a monetary transaction.
Example of Zero Value Entry
Your business gives 5 units of Product A as a free sample to a customer. The price per unit is ₹100, but since it’s a free sample, the total amount is ₹0.
